Authentic Regency-Era Spode Pottery This exceptional blue and white transferware hot water plate dates to approximately 1830. It features the charming "Girl at the Well" pastoral scene, a classic Spode pattern surrounded by a lush floral border. This is a true collector’s item, retaining the original character and provenance of the Josiah Spode II era.

In the early 19th century, before modern insulated serving ware, these plates were high-status functional items. The hollow body was designed to be filled with boiling water via the side spout, which would radiate heat through the ceramic surface to keep a diner's meal warm throughout the course.

Has both impressed and transfer printed Spode marking as well as workman’s mark. Measures 11.5 x 10 x 2.25 inches. Overall excellent condition for a piece nearly 200 years old. There are small chips on the handle. The only crazing is minor and localized to the inside of the spout.
