About the artist: The painter and graphic artist Michael Rabe was born in Hamburg in 1957 and studied at the Hamburg Academy of Fine Arts from 1975 to 1981. He developed an early interest in old painting and in old graphic techniques such as copperplate engraving and Mezzotinto, which he taught himself. Guided by this interest in the past and his efforts in mastering as many handicraft techniques as possible as the basis for his artistic work, he has chosen a way which is quite unusual for his day, leading him for a long time through dark madieval lanes.
