Each candleholder is solid and well weighted with heavy silver coverage, a Gorham trademark for pieces produced until the late 1950s. This pair can easily stand alone or mix with a variety of more traditional candlesticks and holders. I love them!
The Gorham Silver Manufacturing Company was founded and operated in Providence, Rhode Island, and is one of America's oldest and largest silversmiths, dating to the early 19th century. Interestingly, Gorham pieces are tricky to identify by style, because throughout its history the company tended to follow the design zeitgeist of the times. As a result, there is tremendous variety in Gorham designs.
