Vintage original film poster half sheet (22” x 28”) for Noel Coward’s “Blithe Spirit”, a 1945 British supernatural black comedy film directed by David Lean & starring Rex Harrison, Kay Hammond, Margaret Rutherford & Constance Cummings — based on Coward’s 1941 play of the same name.
The poster is in fine to very fine condition. It has a small tear at lower center repaired with conservation tape on the back. Otherwise, the half sheet has minor fold & border wear. It really is in pretty nice condition & will display very well.
While initially unsuccessful at the box office, it has since come to be considered notable for its Technicolor photography & Oscar-winning visual effects in particular. The film marked Lean's first attempt at directing comedy. As with most of Coward's work, Blithe Spirit is renowned for its sophisticated dialogue. Although it received positive critical reviews, it was a commercial disappointment initially but it is now widely regarded as a classic.
