Authentic TF brushes will have glossy rich dark brown handles, counterfeit handles are dull and light mauvey brown in color, authentic gold branding is deep, bright and wide, counterfeit gold branding is thin and faint, "Japan" branding is smooth with the handle, the counterfeit "Japan" imprint was stamped after the handle was sealed causing the imprint to be raised and 3d-like to touch.
